Midweek Push

Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye make clean the outside of the cup and of the platter, but within they are full of extortion and excess. Thou blind Pharisee, cleanse first that which is within the cup and platter, that the outside of them may be clean also.” (Matthew 23:25-26)

You’re halfway through the week and you may be looking for that extra push to encourage you the rest of the way. This week’s push we hope will promote integrity and move you to look deep inside and make real changes in your life.

Honestly speaking many days we play dress up to keep people from seeing the sin inside of us. We reach for the Cover Girl and the Maybelline just to get through the week. The Cover Girl hides all the flaws we don’t want people to comment on and the Maybelline conceals all the hurts that spur on our negative attitudes and haughty approaches to truth.

Even if you don’t wear physical make-up, each day we dress ourselves up to look and appear righteous on the outside, yet we neglect our inner selves that are starving for attention. Our outward activities may not truly reflect our inward beliefs. Challenge yourself to take a different approach to Dress Up, not merely to look good on the outside, but to rid yourself of ill thinking on the inside.

Matthew 23:25-26 expounds on how the Pharisees were guilty of cleaning the outside of the cups, while the insides remained filthy. Outwardly they looked righteous, while inwardly their hearts were totally against God’s truths. Many times we can get caught up in rituals, projects, and doing things for show versus cultivating relationships, embracing pure worship to God, and serving to give God the glory. Don’t be guilty of showing off to the world how good you look outside when God sees how you really look inside. If God were to turn you inside out what would the world behold?

Take a good look into the mirror, the perfect law of liberty (James 1:23-25) and see how you measure up. Are you looking good outside, but looking a hot mess inside? If so, let God dress you up to look just like Him inside and out!
