Year End Closeout: Everything Must Go!

Wednesday, December 07, 2011

Your old woman is full of useless baggage. She has you carrying around weight that doesn’t build you up, bless your God, or believe in you. Are you dragging around bitter and belittling useless baggage? If so, this old woman has got to go, NOW! This is your first warning: Get Rid of Useless Baggage.

Psalm 51:3 calls this baggage, sin that is always before us

Ephesians 4:22 calls this baggage, the old man that is corrupt and deceitful

Hebrews 12:1 calls this baggage, sin that easily besets us

How far will you carry your baggage this time? Will you carry it a few more days, weeks, months? Each year it offers you nothing new, but rather it gives you the same headaches and heartaches. It hurts, and yet you carry it around like a prized possession. Too many of God’s children are comfortable lugging useless baggage that is slowing us down from doing His will.

However, there are occasions when it is okay to carry a load or two (Galatians 6:2,5; Romans 15:1), but when you find you have become emotionally drained, verbally ridiculed, socially isolated, and negatively influenced all because of baggage, it’s time to let it go and get to moving in a different direction.

We want to encourage you to have a Year End Closeout event in your own life:

Close out the harmful effects of baggage that pull and tear at your soul; Close out the hateful sounds of baggage that talk about and persecute you; Close out the hazardous feelings of baggage that make you angry, bitter and emotional; Close out the hurtful homes of baggage that leave you isolated and alone.

If you notice that what you have been holding on to is more damaging than beneficial, it is useless baggage. If you notice that your spiritual walk has slowed, staggered, or stopped, you may be holding onto useless baggage. Remember, baggage is not meant to be taken everywhere you go. Airplanes even give carry on baggage its own designated spot: OVERHEAD, OUT OF SIGHT and OUT OF YOUR WAY. Everything Must Go, so today, useless baggage will be the first to be loosed with these three steps.

1. Get your baggage overhead. Give it to the Father. Lift it up, above your head in prayer and leave it there. God’s safety carriage—Jesus—is sturdy and strong enough to handle it. (Psalm 55:22, Psalm 103:11-12)

2. Get your baggage out of sight. Release it from your sight and mind so that you do not constantly think on it or about it. This may include issues, as well as people. (Psalm 25:15, Psalm 101:3)

3. Get your baggage out of your way. When you’re not hauling it, your walk is smoother. Baggage is a stumblingblock to growth, so move it out of your path. (Isaiah 26:7, Matthew 16:23)
