She's A Keeper: Keep Your Praise

Monday, January 16, 2012

"By him therefore let us offer the sacrifice of praise to God continually, that is, the fruit of our lips giving thanks to his name." (Hebrews 13:15)

The scripture above says, because of Jesus, we as a body of believers, as well as individually, give up ourselves (which includes the entire mind, body, and soul) in order to be a commendable vessel to God. This sacrifice of life should be done continually through our words as we speak highly of the goodness of God.

So what does that have to do with KEEPing your Praise? Some of us may not even know what praise is. It goes beyond prayers before bed and blessing your meals. Praise happens from the inside out. You have to open your mouth and present something. In the Old Testament, praise was a verb (what you do); in the New Testament, praise is a noun (what you bring). Praise is a sacrifice of yourself, your wills and desires, for the purpose of giving thanks and appreciation to God for who He is and what He has done in your life. Through Jesus, you can transform lip service into life sacrifice.

The Lord knew you before you were born. He formed you precisely and peacefully to have a relationship with Him. God beautifully crafted you in His mind and positioned you in your mother’s womb perfectly, fearfully, and wonderfully (Psalm 139:13-14). You are HIS precious creation, fashioned to be the praise of His glory (Ephesians 1:12). So, KEEP your Praise.

God praises you whenever He sends the devil your way (Job 1:8). When He said, “have you considered my servant Job,” God was affirming that He knew that Job would be able to resist satan. This is the praise: Because God knows you by name, He considers you too! He believes in you and puts you in a place of honor to prove satan wrong. He praises you knowing you will do the right thing when the enemy tries to influence you to do otherwise. So, KEEP your Praise.

Now, the question arises, "what do I have to offer?" What could I possibly offer to please God and glorify Him in the process? Is it my time, thought, talent, treasure? Perhaps. The Lord is looking for women that are not ashamed to offer Him their entire lives in praise. Will you be one of those women? What you devote to Him should be purposed, radical, action-packed, instant, sacrificial, and everlasting. Examine your P.R.A.I.S.E. below:

Purposed—from God (why you were created)
You were created for the sole purpose of being a praise to God. You (and all of us) have the same purpose of bringing souls to Christ through our calling. Submit your talents to God and let Him use you. KEEP Your Praise by offering God the purpose that He already placed in you.

Radical—bold (why you’re different)
A true woman of God is bold. She is intentional in her love for God and she does not blend in with the world. She is not ashamed of the gospel. She loudly gives thanks in the midst of her turmoil. KEEP Your Praise by radically standing up for God in all things.

Action—movement (why you can’t keep still)
Inactivity erases intent. You may proclaim your love, trust, or obedience to God, but if it cannot be seen in action, it cannot be considered nor measured. You should be on the move for the Father; nonstop backing up your life with works of service and faith. KEEP Your Praise by eliminating passivity.

Instant—immediate (why you can’t wait)
How fast can you thank God? Have you returned to thank Him like the leper in Luke 17:11-19? He’s blessed you with healing, increased riches, joy, and peace of mind? Have you thanked Him yet? If not, what are you waiting for? KEEP Your Praise by thanking Him on time.

Sacrificial—giving (why you’re not your own)
You are not your own. You belong to the Lord. Will you sacrifice your life to God and offer up your body as Christ did? In times of temptation, persecution, or conflict, give God everything within you as a testament of thanksgiving to Him. KEEP Your Praise by giving of yourself daily.

Everlasting—forever (why you’re not time conscious)
Praise doesn’t begin Sunday and end Monday. Your life is forever praise to the Almighty for His wonderful goodness. At all times, He deserves appreciation. He is waiting to spend forever with you, so praise Him now. KEEP Your Praise by losing track of the time.

BE THE P-R-A-I-S-E.

There’s nothing worse than a prideful, lying, cursing, worrying, gossipy woman. Praising self and others more than God is not music to His ears. It's time to become a more fruitful, peaceful, loving praise to the Lord. Is your praise high enough for Him to see, loud enough for Him to hear, long enough for Him to reach, wide enough for Him to respect or has your lifestyle disconnected you from Him (Isaiah 59:2)?

You’re not KEEPing Your Praise for the world; though the world may see. You’re not KEEPing Your Praise to yourself, though you may feel like you should. The way you live and the sacrifice you give is a continual praise scene to, for, and before God. You are the light that brings Him glory. You are the instrument of praise.

BE A KEEPER. Keep Your Praise by being the sacrifice.

Scriptures to Reflect On:

Psalm 51:15
Ephesians 1:1-12
1 Peter 2:5

Study Questions:

1. God believes you are worthy, beautiful, and strong. Have you ever felt less than this? How did you respond?

2. Sacrifices hurt. Has being a sacrifice of praise to God hurt or challenged you in anyway? How so?

3. How can/have you progressed from lip service to life sacrifice? What practical steps can you take to Keep Your Praise and be a constant show of thanksgiving to the Lord?

Thank you:

  1. Thank you!! I used to think that praise is what we do on Sunday morning. I am so thankful God is still teaching me...how I live my life each day is alot more important than what I do for an hour on Sunday morning. Our lives are a sacrifice of praise!

    1. Tracy,
Thank you for sharing honestly your experience with growing up and praise. Praise is something many were not taught apart from Sunday worship. Now that we have matured in the Lord, it's great to be able to recognize that our lives are to praise Him constantly! Again, thanks for sharing!!!!

    1. Laura,

We are thankful that you were encouraged through the lesson today on Keeping Your Praise. You are so right, sometimes the words we use to describe God cannot truly compare to how exceedingly wonderful and magnificent He really is; but we continue to praise Him through our lives the best way we know how!

Thank you for being a wonderful asset and support to S.W.A.P. Ministries. We appreciate all your comments and sharing with us!
