And they all with one consent began to make excuse.” (Luke 14:18)

We can come up with an excuse for everything: Why we don’t exercise, because we don’t have the proper workout clothes; why we don’t go to church services, because we were hurt at a church before and don’t want to be hurt again; or why we just can’t do what we’re asked to do, because our hands are tied and we don’t have the time.

A popular saying goes like this: Excuses are tools of the incompetent. They build monuments of nothingness and bridges to nowhere. Those who specialize in excuses are seldom good for anything but excuses.

You can miss the greatest of blessings when you excuse yourself. God may need you to fulfill a specific calling, yet an excuse holds you hostage to progress. God may be testing you to proclaim Him before others, yet an excuse freezes you in mid testimony. God may want to use you to bring Him glory with your talents, yet an excuse stifles and diminishes your ability.

It’s time to EX the excuses and start taking responsibility for your actions.

EXtinguish excuses–put them out when they start to blaze out of control
EXonerate excuses–free them from your mind when they start taking the place of truth
EXpel excuses–remove them when they start to trouble your walk with the Lord

Let's be honest. Making excuses are good for no one and profit nothing. Ex those excuses that may try to spring up in your life today and PUSH yourself through the rest of the week by doing and saying the right things!

*Read Luke 14:16-24 for a deeper look at excuses and their consequences.*
