And, behold, a woman, which was diseased with an issue of blood twelve years, came behind him, and touched the hem of his garment:” (Matthew 9:20)

One evening we were at a political rally supporting one of the senators that we favored. It was thousands of people in line and when they opened the gate for us to enter, we were all trying to get as close as possible to the stage. We just wanted to be close enough to maybe get a handshake, receive direct eye contact or to get a good picture. We wanted to be so close so that we could not only say we were there, but we could share that we experienced it. We waited hours and hours in line before the doors opened, then the complaints and doubts started rumbling through the crowd. “Maybe they’re not coming,” “It’s getting later and later, and we’re tired.”

Sometimes when we do get close enough, we stop or give up right before the experience because it’s taking too long.

Waiting on Jesus takes too long for us too, right? If we were at our favorite concert, time wouldn’t matter. That same enthusiasm and patience should be 10x as much in getting close to Jesus. We say, “I believe you Lord, I trust you;” but how far are we willing to go to experience Him?

Sometimes religion gets in our way. You know the “doing” and “performing” and “acting” to show God we’re worthy of a healing or deserving of an answer to our prayers. We oftentimes know religion, but we don’t know the Redeemer; because for so long we’ve performed acts instead of professing the Almighty.

Are you close enough? The woman with the issue of blood knew the odds were against her (being a woman, being poor, being unclean) but she didn’t let that stop her from getting next to Jesus. She believed in her heart that if she just touched His garment she would be healed.

Faith is getting so close that your doubts dissipate. Faith is getting so close that the naysayers can’t stop you. Faith is saying regardless of what is before me I know what lies ahead for me, so I’ll move forward while I have the opportunity. Is your faith getting you close enough to touch Jesus or is it barely getting you by? It’s not necessarily that you are low enough to touch Him, are you close enough?

We experience Him, not just by reading the word, but also by living the word out in our lives. Her faith made her move and ours should too! She wanted to get so close that Jesus would give her direct eye contact. So she went for it. When she touched him, Jesus turned and recognized her! Not only that, He said because of your faith, you are made whole.

If we get too far from the Lord He may not recognize us. He wants us to get so close that we can taste and see how good He is (Psalm 34:8)! If you get close enough, He’ll notice you. If you get close enough, He’ll reach down to you. If you get close enough, He’ll heal you of a problem you’ve had for years.

The question is: Are you?
