As Jesus went on from there, two blind men followed him, calling out, ‘Have mercy on us, Son of David!’” (Matthew 9:27)

I (Melanie) sometimes am afflicted with a slight eye problem. There are times when I wake up or if I’m just walking or driving, that I get a rainbow-colored film to come over my eye. Doctors that I’ve gone to have not said much about it since it only lasts for a few minutes; but for me it is the longest most annoying few minutes of my life! I know that I am far from being physically blind, but I always ask God to take this annoyance away from me as soon as it comes.

This reminds me of the two blind men, mentioned in Matthew 9. It was not uncommon for there to be many people to be stricken with poor or no eyesight. Jesus was on a healing spree and these two men knew that He was in their neck of the woods; how do we know this? The scripture says they were following Him! We don't know how they knew where he was, all we know is that they followed him.

If you want to see Jesus too, you can! In this chapter the last few people that were healed had their faith to thank for it:

“When Jesus saw their faith, he said to the man, “Take heart, son; your sins are forgiven.” (v. 2)
“Jesus turned and saw her. “Take heart, daughter,” he said, “your faith has healed you.” (v. 22)

It took faith for those blind men to see Jesus. They were following behind him and even calling out to him. Have you called out to the Lord lately? Do not let whatever physical or spiritual state you find yourself in keep you from following Jesus. How many times have you found yourself unable to see what the Lord was doing in your life? Did you stop worshiping or keep on following after Him? Have any of you ever suffered from physical blindness? How did you seek Jesus during that period of no eyesight?

These two men were blind, but they lifted their voices in faith, knowing Jesus was present, close, and available to have mercy on them. Jesus continued his healing crusade and turned to the two men and asked if they believed He could heal them. Their testimony is as follows:

“Then he touched their eyes and said, ‘According to your faith let it be done to you;’ and their sight was restored.” (v. 29-30)

What is your eye-opening testimony? They did not ask for their sight, they asked for mercy, but Jesus gave them both. They may not have been able to see, but they knew how to physically follow after the Savior. Today, we encourage you to follow after Jesus, lift up your voice, call out to Him, and ask for His mercy. If you want to see Jesus you CAN! Follow Him and see how far your faith will take you!

    1. Wow, Michelle, what an honest reply and I am so grateful that you shared your eye-opeing testimony with us! Sometimes it's hard to rely on God when we've been so accustomed to relying on ourselves most of our lives. BUT GOD knows how to show up in our lives and teach us the lessons we need right on time! I am certainly thankful that this one helped you see some areas of growth in your life and has given me (if you don't mind) some areas to pray for you on in giving it all over to Him. I pray we can continue to learn more about our Father each and every day and that we keep growing together as SWAPs! We love you all too :)
