Mountain Moving Monday: Endure

When we are cursed, we bless; when we are persecuted, we endure it;
(1 Corinthians 4:12, NIV)

Word Study: Endure

The original meaning of endure is taken from the Greek word Anechometha, which means to bear with, have patience with, suffer, admit, persist.

Let’s look at the word endure in the scripture above to see how it applies to our lives.

In this verse the apostle Paul was speaking to the church about how he had to suffer much for the cause of Christ. We will all suffer different types of hardships in our lives and as Paul was sharing his, it is only fair to consider how we would manage under such circumstances. There are many times where we may be quick to get even or to lash out if we are persecuted; however Paul says he would bless, rather than curse back, and would endure the persecution instead of crumbling under the pressure. He was an advocate for enduring the pain that accompanies the Christian journey.

How is it for you? Do you find it easy to bear the burdens of your life? What do you find yourself holding on to so that you don’t lose hope? Do you remain tame when others are acting wild? Do you rain out profanities and speak ill of those that curse you or do you smile and let the Lord take vengeance?

You may fall down, but you endure by getting back up. You may be talked about, but you endure by praying to God about them instead. You may feel like you work your fingers to the bone for God, but you endure by glorifying His name, regardless. The enemy has it out for you today; he is ready to trip you up and devour you whole. Don’t let him eat you alive. Endure and prove to the Lord that you can make it through this light affliction. His grace will carry you through. How will you endure today?

Today, Father, we thank you for being the God that we trust and mimic in our day-to-day lives. There are so many trials that spring up around us and pitfalls that we are learning to endure. Teach us to focus on you through it all. We pray that you humble us during our burdens. We pray and ask that we look at how Jesus endured so much pain for us, yet called it joy. Lord, let joy spills from our lips rather than cursing. Give us your strength Lord, today...this moment. In Jesus’ name we pray, Amen.

How will you endure to move mountains today?
