Midweek Push: God is Enough

Hey Friends!

We would like to introduce you to our friend and sister in Christ, Tammy Bennett. She works with at-risk students teaching life skills. She enjoys singing, taking pictures and traveling. She is striving each day to become closer to God and to become the best version of herself that she can be!

"Whom have I in heaven but you? And earth has nothing I desire besides you. My flesh and my heart may fail, but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever." (Psalm 73:25-26)

God is enough – what a profound statement! But what does it really mean? When you stop and think about it, what is enough? Well, I decided to do a little research and discovered that enough is defined as sufficient to meet a need or satisfy a desire; adequate.

So that’s what God is, able to meet any need or satisfy any desire that we have! Wow. If that’s the case, why are we sitting around acting like we don’t know who He is and what He can do for us?

A lot of you may not know this, but I’m the type of person that likes to know how and when things are going to happen; I like to be in control (or at least feel like I’m in control). With that said, I’m sure you can see how I’ve had some problems “truly” turning things over to God. I’ll call myself turning a situation over and before I know it, I’m back trying to figure it out!

Well, God has been patiently working with me. Last year, Rodney and I found out that his position would be cut at the end of June. Well my “need to control” kicked in – how are we going to meet the bills each month? How are we going to make it?

Well, the Lord has blessed me with a husband who is the complete opposite of me, so in his laid-back fashion, he reassured me that God was going to work things out. I did a lot of praying, listened to a lot of encouraging messages and did everything else I had to do to stay focused and positive; and sure enough, once I realized that I had absolutely no control over the situation and truly turned it over, God came through, like always!!

Rodney’s unemployment came through without a hitch and even during the times when we have missed a check due to system changes, the bills are still getting paid (we even have extra sometimes) and God is opening doors for people to take more interest in Rodney’s artwork. God has also taught me how to shop smarter – hey we’re on a budget but a girl still has to shop sometimes! Goodwill, thrift stores and Aldis have become my regular shopping spots during the last year.

So even though I still have some need to have control in my life, each and every day I’m learning to lean more and more on God. God is helping me to realize that He is enough and He is more than able to meet each of my needs!

  1. God bless you and keep you in all your endeavors because without
leaning and trusting in God, Almighty, WE WILL HAVE NOTHING! REMEMBER GOD FIRST AND YOU LAST.

  2. What a good word!!! God is absolutely enough! I think we all need reminders of that. We women often want to be in control of everything. Living this life teaches us that, as you said, we are actually in control of "nothing" . . . sometimes that includes ourselves. Thank you for this reminder and word of encouragement. AND, welcome Tammy!

  3. ‎Tammy, I thank you for writing this encouragement but yet showing me areas in my walk where I am weak! I too find myself trying to be "in control" and when I do that, I find myself in a worse predicament. Thanks for helping me keep my eyes focused on God through this lesson and to realize just what it means that He is Enough! I'm so thankful that His enough is MORE than enough for me!!!

  4. Thank you for this message on letting God be in control because I've been so in control that I feel lost when I'm not in control of mine & my kids lives. All I done was a search for God and the kept woman and it led me here. God sure does know how to show us that he is the one that guide us.

    1. Hello Lady Red,

We pray all is well your way and we praise God for leading you to this page; it is no accident that you are here. We actually have a mini-devotional series that we did on the Kept Woman. We would love for you to see how the Spirit used us to write that study. This link will take you to our She's A Keeper Series: http://www.swapministries.org/search/label/She%27s%20A%20Keeper%20Series

Just scroll all the way to the bottom to start at lesson 1! Let us know what you think...and we will be praying for you as you long to deepen your relationship with the Lord! Give Him your all, so he can give you back everything else and more!
