For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast.” (Ephesians 2:8-9)

TESTIFY DON’T BOAST

The question has been asked, how do I know whether I’m testifying or if I’m merely boasting? A simple answer is that testimonies ALWAYS include, bring glory back to, point to, and expound on God and His goodness. Boasting usually brings attention to self and highlights personal strength or ability. Check out our ABC’s of Testifying below.

A Testimony:

ACKNOWLEDGES God
BLESSES God
CENTERS around God
DELIGHTS in God
EMPHASIZES GOD
FAVORS God
GLORIFIES God
HONORS God
INFORMS of God
JOYFULLY proclaims God’s holiness
KEEPS sharing God’s goodness
LIFTS up the name of God
MAXIMIZES God’s majesty
NEVER expires when it focuses on God
OPENLY expresses that God is in control
PRAISES God without apology
QUICKLY speaks of God’s salvation
REACHES towards reconciliation with God
SACRIFICES personal attention for God’s admonition
TEACHES about God
UTTERS God’s understanding ultimately
VERIFIES God’s grace
WELCOMES God’s presence
eXalts God publicly
YEARNS for God’s Spirit
ZEALOUSLY seeks God’s heart

Boasting says, look at me, while Testifying says look at God. Boasting says, I did, while Testifying says, God is. If you realize your story has more you in it than the Savior, it’s a great indicator that you’re boasting. Start Testimony Tuesday by making mention of God first and foremost.

Let’s swap!
