GOD SEES YOUR HEART

"For the Lord seeth not as man seeth; for man looketh on the outward appearance, but the Lord looketh on the heart." (1 Samuel 16:7b)

What is this passage teaching me about how God sees me?

  1. Greetings,

The Lord our God is not concerned with how and what we look like on the outside but what is on the inside of us. Our thoughts, our thinking, our motivies. Are we kind, gentle, loving each other as Christ did. Letting go of offense's, forgiving.. I'm I??? Are we?? Thank you for this passage.. sometimes it takes a while to truly get it..

    1. Thank you for your honesty Michelle, sometimes it does take a while to get it right. It takes a minute to realize that we can dress our outsides up as good as we want, but God still looks at our minds and our thoughts. He wants to see just how well we have dressed our spirit!

  2. This is so true. It reminds me of the passages in the Bible where God says, " When I was hungry, you fed me. When I was naked, you clothed me. When I was sick, you visited me... When you did this unto the least of these, you did this also unto Me." -Matthew. He's definitely always looking at our hearts. This is a great passage and reminder.

    1. Yes it is Sienna! Thank you for that correlating scripture...God is seeing if our hearts match what we are doing. He is looking to see if we're concerned with dressing our spirit or if we are just merely trying to look good in the sight of others. Amen, what are we doing for others that will show where are hearts are in Christ!

  3. Your appearances are not as important as your committed heart God knows those who truely have enough faith to get it done. There is no way to decieve Him. David was not perfect but like you & I God can use our talents especially when we have alot of love in our hearts & are committed to serve. In John 14:1,27 We are told let not your be troubled & in Acts 2:46,5:33 speak about The hearts of the Christians.

    1. You said the key phrase, "there is no way to deceive Him." No matter how hard we may try to cover up our blemishes and imperfections, God sees our hearts and if we are truly committed to Him. Thanks for sharing Sharon!

  4. It doesn't matter what I look like on the outside if the inside of me is "ugly." Matt. 12:34b-35 says.."For out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks. (35) A good man out of the good treasure of his heart brings forth good things, and an evil man out of the evil treasure brings forth evil things." My life is reflected by what's inside me, not what I look like on the outside. If I'm walking in the Spirit and displaying good fruits then I beautiful in the eyes of God.

  5. I need not concern myself with the way the world sees me because outward appearance is not a true reflection of the heart. God is not moved by our "public displays". He looks at the true source of our being, our hearts, and there is were one can truly find who or what a person really is.

    1. Jean we like how you said, "God is not concerned with our public displays." It's what's inside that matters to Him. Thank you for sharing with us!

  6. You can present anything outwardly. Man knows only what you show. God knows you internally your heart your mind (thoughts and feelings) he knows you mind body and soul. You can hide everything from man and nothing from god.

  7. What this scripture teaches us is you have a physical appearance, which is your outward appearance. Then you have your spiritual appearance, which is your inward appearance. While man looks at the outward appearance, God looks at our inward appearance, which is our heart. The Lord see beyond the outward appearance he know what is in our hearts. It doesn't matter what your outward appearance may be, what your height may be, it is what is in your heart that matters. The physical appearance is not what matters to God, it is your spiritual appearance that matters.

  8. This scripture tells me that God looks beyond my outer appearance and all the things that man see when he see me. God sees my heart so He knows the deeper me; He knows if my intentions are right; He knows that even if I think I do not qualify for a job or position He knows I have potential. Who I am flows from my heart and I can't disguise this from God.

    1. Maggie, you are right God sees so far beyond our outward appearance and who we are should come from our hearts which is what God sees anyway.

  9. Today in reading various scripture & daily devotions, I want to share this with all my sisters & brothers in Christ. "Every Christian is a minister, not a pastor but a minister. Anytime You use your talents & gifts to help others you are ministering." ~ Rick Warren , Purpose Driven Life

  10. (Melanie) Though I may try to hide or mask who I am or what I'm feeling through facial expressions, words, clothes, etc., God sees the real me. He sees exactly how I feel, He knows my potential, my highest and my lowest points. He wants to make me love being His child. It doesn't matter what I look like on the outside, God sees my heart.
