Mountain Moving Monday: Cleave

“…Cleave to that which is good.” (Romans 12:9)

Word Study: Cleave

The original meaning of cleave in this verse is taken from the Greek word, Kollaó, which means to glue, stick, join self closely, adhere to, or keep company with.

Let’s look at the word cleave in the scripture above to see how it applies to our lives.

When we’re attracted to something, we tend to not be able to take our eyes off of it. If it’s a person, a place, a thing, or an idea, if we’re attracted to it, then we’re hooked. Are you hooked on Jesus?

When it comes to the things of God [such as prayer, service, faith, worship, fellowship, love], are we attracted to those things or do we give them a “once over” and go on about our business?

Are you cleaving to heaven or are you just making plans for the next five years? Are you cleaving to righteousness or are you just waiting to get over this transgression so you can say God forgive me and move on to the next transgression? Are you cleaving to love or rushing towards lust? What kind of good is surrounding you?

Good from God is always attractive, however sometimes our eyes and our hands are found on everything else other than what’s of Him. You don’t have to chase a man down, if he’s good for you, cleave to God and see if He brings him to you. You don’t have to fight so hard to be respected, cleave to God and disrespect will fall at your feet.

Challenge yourself to move a mountain by finding God’s goodness attractive; meaning what God has for you is desirable and full of everything that you want. Pray that His desires become your own. Pray that Christ-likeness will occupy your conversations and conduct. Pray that, what God needs you to learn about your present mountain will not only strengthen you, but will defeat satan. His fate has already been determined, so faithfully and lovingly cleave to God.

Hold on tight.

Dear Lord, help us to cleave to you. Teach us Lord about your greatness and majesty. Our words are so limited to describe just how much we want to be next to you; just how much we want to adhere and join ourselves so close in you. Each day, show us your beauty in what may not seem beautiful to the world. Change our minds to think positively and train our hearts to adore Jesus with all that is within us. Help us to let go of the mundane, redundant, complacent lives we’ve been living and to keep company with your Spirit on a daily basis. God we desire to be closer to you now, more than ever. In the precious name of Jesus we pray, Amen!

How will you cleave to move mountains today?
