Mountain Moving Monday: Confidence

Monday, October 29, 2012

This is the confidence we have in approaching God: that if we ask anything according to his will, he hears us.” (1 John 5:14, NIV)

Word Study: Confidence

The original meaning of confidence is taken from the Greek word PARRHESIA (par-rhay-see-ah), which means outspokenness, frankness, bluntness, freedom of speech, unreservedness of utterance, to speak without ambiguity, the absence of fear in speaking boldly, and cheerful courage.

Let’s look at the word confidence in the scripture above to see how it applies to our lives.

How confident are you in your prayers to God? Do you believe that what you ask will be done or do you throw up a prayer only to worry about it not being received?

We often command our mountains to move, yet are not truly convinced that they will. So what happens? The mountains in our lives remain. It’s one thing to believe without a shadow of a doubt that we ourselves can move mountains. It’s another thing to be convinced that God can move mountains. This is where your confidence in prayer sets in. Believing that your words will prompt God to move.

IF you are in Christ, you should be confident that God hears and answers your prayers. One quote says, “When we want what God wants, He’ll give us what we ask.” What are you asking for? Is it according to His will? Are you praying boldly, frankly, and without vagueness? List three things that you want God to move in your life; now see how long it takes for you to doubt that these things will come to pass. Do you even believe you’ll receive a blessing from His hands?

These words are for those that follow Christ, not just half-heartedly, but in full assurance. When we pray we should not be ashamed. Our Father is waiting to hear from us (although He already knows what we will ask).

So speak up shamelessly! Speak up enthusiastically! Speak up in bold humility!

Only through Jesus can we be confident that when we ask, God will hear. Does your confidence lie in yourself bringing to pass a movement in your mountain, or is your confidence in God keeping His promises? Our prayers give us access to God so we should turn the key of his heart, believing He’ll let us in.

Heavenly Father, we first pause to honor you, our Deliverer, our Redeemer, our Strong Tower and positive Stronghold in the face of trouble. Teach us to trust in you with all that is within us Lord. As we pray, may we not be ashamed because of the deep fellowship we have with Jesus, who allows us access to you. Open our mouths to praise you without shame! God, we want to know you deeper, so enhance our confidence in prayer, because you said if we pray believing and according to your will, we shall receive the desires of our hearts. Lord, make your desires our own! In the name of Jesus we pray, Amen.

How will your confidence move mountains today?
