A double minded man in unstable in all his ways.” (James 1:8)

Do you have a big but?

You know the kind of but that keeps you from making wise, sober decisions for the Lord?

Buts can take the form of doubt. Doubt is the duplicating of your thoughts and opinions, a negative stronghold that keeps you from truly trusting God. We have been called to be of one mind, however, “buts” (or doubt) lead to double thoughts, which leads to double talk, which leads to double walk, which eventually leads to a double life. Those that live double lives are called imposters—constantly wavering between two ways of life.

How are you living?

Are you a consistent follower of Christ or is your but getting in the way? Are you trusting the Lord to move or is your but too big to see God? Do your thoughts swing back and forth between but and believer? Are you forever on a spiritual seesaw, unsure of if you’re up with God one day or down with the devil the next?

Elijah once said, “How long will you falter between two opinions? If the Lord is God, follow Him; but if Baal, follow him.”

Where do you stand?

God I know you gave me a raise, BUT I’m still not making enough to pay the bills?
Master, I know you told me to wait on you, BUT this man is looking too good to pass up?
Lord, I know you said you would protect me, BUT look at all this evil in the world?
Father, I remember your word said that I could ask you anything in prayer and I would receive, BUT what’s taking you so long to deliver on my request?

Let go of the but and grab hold of Jesus who never changes (Hebrews 13:8). Drop the but and walk with the God of all time (Psalm 102:27). Lose with the but and win with the Savior who keeps us unmovable (1 Corinthians 15:57-58)!

Trust in God although your future may seem uncertain, your situation may look gloomy, or your funds may be low. Don't let your but overshadow the Blessed Redeemer! Don’t give up on or lose sight of Him. He is unwavering, so keep your focus and heart on Him and watch your but soon disappear!

What buts do you need to free yourself of today?
