"And whatsoever ye shall ask in my name, that will I do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son. If ye shall ask any thing in my name, I will do it."
(John 14:13-14)

How is power described in this passage?

  1. There is power in the name Jesus! God gave Him all power in heaven and on earth. He is the True and Living Word of God. His will IS His word - His only begotten Son. God watches over His word to perform it. Healing, deliverance, salvation, redemption, protection, forgiveness, faith - all we need do is ask. ITS IN YOU LORD THAT WE LIVE, MOVE AND HAVE OUR BEING! NOW THATS POWER!

    1. Amen Denise! There is truly power from the Lord ready to unleashed in us! Thank you for swapping!

  2. Power is described as Jesus answering my prayers. When I ask (beg/call for/crave/desire) in Jesus name, which makes me be conscious of what I'm praying for, Jesus will perform it so that God gets the ultimate glory. I ask myself am I praying for things in the authority of Jesus or in the selfishness of my heart? I recall times when it has been the selfishness of my heart, but growing more in Christ, I pray that God will make His desires my own (so that I'm praying for the things that God would have me to pray for). [Psalm 37:4].

Sometimes, I try not to ask in the form of sounding like I'm "asking God permission," but that I'm truly praying heartfelt prayers of my soul crying out to my Master. The powerful prayer of an authentic heart will reach the heart of the merciful Father's throne.

  3. I like how one commentary articulates that what we ask should be for our good and suitable for our state, meaning we should not just ask for things in vain. This verse shows me the power in Christ as my mediator, He is my connection to God. The very fact that I can ask for something in the name of Jesus, and God will grant my request, shows that there is power in the name of Jesus!! The word name in this passage translates to mean "his authority." The word that really stuck out to me was ask which translates "beg, call for, crave, desire, or require." Today, I will call on Jesus, for in His name alone is power!
