POWER OF KNOWLEDGE

"A wise man is strong and is better than a strong man, and a man of knowledge increases and strengthens his power."
(Proverbs 24:5, AMP)

What is being spoken to me about power?

  1. This verse took some time to digest. After much meditation, I believe that the power described here resides in our minds and hearts. The wise man was declared strong and better than a strong man. I find it interesting that the verse says a wise man is BETTER and not stronger than a strong man. Better in the sense that his decision to choose wisdom over pure physical dexterity will lead to a greater outcome over time. Sure, the strong man has the power to triumph over the wise man in a one-on-one brawl now. Yet, when both are old and feeble, it will be the wise man who has the upper hand. The latter part of the verse says that "a man of knowledge increaseth and strengthens his power." In my opinion, this means that the old and feeble wise man may have been weak physically his entire life, but as he continued to learn about God, his MIND grew powerful over time while the strong man's BODY decreased in strength. In my life, I recognize the importance of taking care of my physical body, but more importantly, as this verse points out, I need to empower my mind with the knowledge of God so that when adversity does come it won't be said of me like in verse 10 of this proverb that my strength was small.

  2. I agree Kristel, this one took some time to meditate on. Similar to you, what I concluded from this scripture is as a child of God I am to grow in wisdom, the wisdom of the Lord. I am reminded of the scripture in Proverbs 4:5...get wisdom, get understanding. I can be as strong physically as the next, but if I lack wisdom, that physical strength won't do me much good. I learn from this verse that power is not just physical, it is mental. Where I place my mind and heart, what I study, what I allow in, all contributes to what I learn. The original word uses intelligent, as a child of God there is absolutely nothing wrong with having the attribute of our Father, intelligence.

  5. It's good to be physically strong, but spiritual wisdom and knowledge excels physical strength. Where does my strength lie? Is it in myself or God? This scripture reminds me that power is exhibited in spiritual knowledge and wisdom and I must exercise those things daily!
