Examine yourselves to see whether you are in the faith; test yourselves. Do you not realize that Christ Jesus is in you—unless, of course, you fail the test?” (2 Corinthians 13:5)

Word Study: Examine

The original meaning of examine is taken from the Greek word PEIRAZO, which means to test, to pierce, to search into, prove, discipline.

Let’s look at the word examine in the scripture above to see how it applies to our lives.

Paul is asking the Christians in the Corinthian church to examine themselves to prove whether they are in the faith. A great test to see if you’re in the faith is by seeing if you are obeying the commands of God (John 14:15) and if you feel the same way about sin as God does (Psalm 119:97-104).

First Timothy 4:1 states, that the Spirit speaks expressly saying that some shall depart from the faith giving heed to all kinds of seducing spirits and doctrines of devils. satan is in this world to test and tempt you for the purpose of proving God wrong and seeing that you fail.

satan is a mountain that needs to be moved through careful examination of your soul.

To examine self is not for the purpose of entrapping one in his or her wrongdoings, but rather for the purpose of proving whether or not one’s motives are aligned with the will of God. Are yours? If not, you may want to examine yourself today to make sure that what you’re doing, saying, and believe is in accordance with God’s way!

You may need to search into your thoughts today before you speak.
You may need to question your motives today before you act.
You may need to discipline your heart today before you receive words into your spirit.
Move mountains today, by examining yourself to see whether you’re in the faith.

Dear Father, teach us to examine ourselves today to make sure the way that we’re living pleases you. We pray, thanking you for seeing the good in us, when satan wants to tempt us only to see the bad. He wants us to fail, but gratefully, we have the victory in You. We win! What a wonderful testimony to proclaim as we prove ourselves worthy to be called your children. Instill your word in us Lord, so that it rings in our hearts and shows through our lives. Examine and try us Lord. We are not ashamed. In the name of Jesus we humbly pray, Amen.

How will you examine yourself to move mountains today?
