Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost:” (Matthew 28:19)

Into Christ

Whew!! God’s word can definitely give us a spiritual workout! Last week, we gave concise examples of people in scripture being baptized. In many of the examples, a believer’s obedience to the gospel of Christ led to other's obedience and becoming baptized (Lydia and her household, jailer and his household, Cornelius and the Gentiles). In addition, after baptism some even went on their way rejoicing (Acts 8—Ethiopian Eunuch)!

Rejoicing is exactly what we should ALL be doing in our newfound relationship with God; our new relationship IN Christ! Being baptized into Christ doesn’t just stop there. We must rejoice and share the good news with others. What kind of news are you sharing? What kind of news has you rejoicing?

We died to our sins like Christ triumphed over death on the cross; we were buried in water like Christ was buried in the tomb; and we’ve risen out of the water A NEW CREATURE, just as Christ rose from the slavery of sin!! This is a reason to rejoice; the excitement must continue in us, in order for God’s word to keep being spread, so that more people can become a part of His kingdom!

Do you remember that great day when your obedient faith led to your baptism into Christ? Do you still rejoice in the blessedness of that day or have you forgotten or misplaced your joy?

Don’t let satan blind side you…repeat this: After ALL the things I’ve been through, I still have JOY! We have joy in Christ!

Claim that joy. Believe that joy. Live that joy.

In Christ, we are afforded and privileged with many joyful blessings. When our baptism fits the gospel pattern, we can rejoice and keep rejoicing (Philippians 4:4) with one another and the world. Here are a few reasons why we are to rejoice in our obedience to the baptism command:

Spiritual Blessings – Ephesians 1:3
Salvation – 2 Timothy 2:10
Eternal Life – 1 John 5:11-12
No condemnation in Christ – Romans 8:1
Access to the Spirit – Romans 8, 1 Corinthians 2:10-16
Divine Help in our Prayers – Matthew 21:22, Romans 8:26, 1 John 5:14
Peace of God – Philippians 4:7
New Life/New Creature – 2 Corinthians 5:17
Remission of sins – Matthew 26:28, Acts 2:38
Redemption – 1 Peter 1:18-19
Adoption into God’s family – John 1:12, Romans 8:15, Galatians 4:4-7, 1 John 3:1-2
Victory in Jesus – 1 Corinthians 15:57
God’s Grace – John 1:17, 2 Corinthians 12:9, Ephesians 1:6
Heavenly Inheritance – Ephesians 1:11, 1 Peter 1:3-6

If a person is not in Christ, then he or she cannot benefit from these blessings from God. It’s true, God rains on/blesses the just and the unjust (Matthew 5:45), however in Christ our position has changed and our spiritual blessings are eternal.
