Service Saturday

Saturday, March 23, 2013

We are advocates against domestic abuse. We have seen the negative effects that it can have on people; and how it can sometimes leave women alone or even displaced. When this happens, many women not only lose their dignity, or their sense of worth; they lose their financial resources and physical belongings.

For that reason, when we go through our household to donate goods that we haven’t or have lightly used, we donate to our local Crisis Assistance Ministry. Here, women [or men] who have lost their homes, clothes, and/or household goods, due to situations like abuse, can shop the Crisis Assistance Ministry’s FREE Store to get back on their feet. Their mission is:

To provide assistance and advocacy for people in financial crisis, helping them move toward self-sufficiency.”

Look within.

Can you serve this Saturday by implementing scriptures like Matthew 25:35-40?

For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me. “Then the righteous will answer him, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you something to drink? When did we see you a stranger and invite you in, or needing clothes and clothe you? When did we see you sick or in prison and go to visit you?’ “The King will reply, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.’”

What local charity or person can benefit from your donation?

Look within your heart, your closets, your home, and give to someone who is in need.

Also, consider giving without the tax write-off; trusting God to give the increase in His way.

This is the perfect time to jump into the Spring Cleaning spirit and loose yourself of the stronghold of clutter! One easy way to de-clutter is to ask yourself the question: Can I reduce by one?

If you have 2 sets of ________, could you reduce by one and still survive? Do you really need 2-3 sets of oven mitts, 2 coffeemakers, 3 skillets, 4 pairs of brown shoes, 5 sets of dishes? When was the last time you wore that one outfit or used that one pan you have stashed away?

Serve this Saturday!

Start to de-clutter by reducing by one.
