Testimony Tuesday

Villagers in Israel would not fight; they held back until I, Deborah, arose, until I arose, a mother in Israel.” (Judges 5:7)

LEAD LIKE THE LORD

Deborah’s Lifestyle:

The scriptures call Deborah a prophetess, a wife, and a judge in Israel. She was a leader spiritually, personally, and professionally. However, she calls herself “a mother in Israel.” Though she led well, she wasn’t caught up in a title. Though she rose above men she didn’t vocalize her influence or power. She was a humble leader who followed the commands of God. She focused on her relationship with the people versus her rule over them.

How does your leadership look?

Deborah’s Heritage:

Deborah is an example for those in search of direction, strength, and the ability to defy the restrictions that are placed on women today. She did not challenge the laws of God, but stood up against opposition when others would not. Her swift decision in the face of the cowardly gave honor to women.

She gave order to Barak (by the command of God) to take with him 10,000 men and go up against Jabin’s army because the Lord would deliver his long time enemy, Sisera, into his hands. Barak would not go to battle without Deborah. Because of this, the honor of victory would be given to women; herself for leading rightly (Judges 4:7) and another woman, Jael, for acting swiftly (Judges 4:17-21).

Deborah’s Testimony:

Power from Within. Calm Leadership. Scriptural Wisdom. Confidence in the Lord.

What’s Your Testimony?

The next time God commands you to do something, do it. You never know when He’ll give the honor to someone else (Judges 4:7-9). Though she was a judge and prophetess, Deborah called herself a mother in Israel. Are you a mother in your area; leading your children, the children in your neighborhood, and the children [of God] in your church? Are you leading like the Lord? We cannot develop the character of God if we’re not around Him. Spend some time in His word and revamp your leadership qualities. What testimony will your leadership reveal?

Some trust in chariots and some in horses, but we trust in the name of the Lord our God.” (Psalm 20:7)
