Then the woman in her wisdom went to all the people.” (2 Samuel 20:22)

Her Lifestyle:

An enemy has infiltrated her city.

Joab and his army were looking for the rebellious leader, Sheba who had taken refuge in the town of Abel. The army has begun to beat against the city wall. Will her people be taken captive? Will they be slain?

The wise woman of Abel saw a problem that needed fixing and instead of fear, she acted out of faith and made a proposition to Joab. Her swift decision saved many innocent people from tragedy and became the testimony of her life!

When was the last time you took a stand that changed the lives of those around you?

She spoke to Joab. “They used to talk in former times, saying, ‘They shall surely seek guidance at Abel,’... they would end disputes. I am among the peaceable and faithful in Israel. You seek to destroy a city and a mother in Israel. Why would you swallow up the inheritance of the Lord” (v. 18-19)?

Joab reassured her saying, just deliver Sheba and we will leave. Without hesitation, the wise woman instructed the people and the head of Sheba was cut off and thrown over the wall. WHOA! We’re in no way advocators of violence, yet her bravery saved her city from attack. What do you need to cut out of your life today?

Her Heritage:

A wise woman. A handmaid. That’s all we know about her. We don’t know if she was ever rich, poor, healthy, ill, married, single, a stay at home mom, or a business professional. Her character, however, spoke volumes; and she hastily made a decision that made one man pay for the ruin he was about to bring on an entire population.

Her Testimony:

“Then the woman in her wisdom went to all the people.”

What’s Your Testimony?

Satan is trying to infiltrate you. He wants to sneak into and tarnish your temple. How are you defending it? Are you respected in your city; your church; your family? Are you making/speaking peace with others so that a war doesn’t rise up? Ask yourself: how do I keep satan away from the walls of my heart?

Build up a wall of defense, secured by God’s word. Stay faithful to God through the battle. Encourage others to peace. Be brave. Be wise. What is your testimony of wisdom?

For the Lord giveth wisdom: out of his mouth cometh knowledge and understanding.” (Proverbs 2:6)
