Do not be deceived: God cannot be mocked. A man reaps what he sows. Whoever sows to please their flesh, from the flesh will reap destruction; whoever sows to please the Spirit, from the Spirit will reap eternal life.”
(Galatians 6:7-8, NIV)

Word Study: Sow

The original meaning of sow in this verse is taken from the Greek word, Speiro, which means to scatter.

Let’s look at the word sow in the scripture above to see how it applies to our lives.

You can’t plant a tomato plant, and get apples. Neither does a watermelon plant, produce roses. The same can be said for the things we plant spiritually. God’s word says whatever we sow (scatter, plant), we will reap (harvest).

satan wants to sow negative into your mind. He wants to sow his negative, nasty thoughts, his negative hateful words, and his negative joy stealing actions. Jesus wants to sow positive into your spirit. He sows His positive peaceful thoughts, His positive pleasant words, and His positive purposeful actions into your spirit to build you up.

You can move mountains by sowing.

Move Mountains by sowing Good – Plant things to please the Spirit. Think of what you’re harvesting: Are you constantly reaping a life of pain, stress, bad news, and poverty? Look at what you’re sowing. Our lives should be filled with vitality, service, and love. Sow good to reap the good.

Move Mountains by sowing GenuinelyGod cannot be mocked. He knows your heart and why you say what you say and do what you do. He knows your intentions before you carry out your plan. Be genuine in what you sow, because God already knows.

A lot can change in your life depending on where and how you choose to sow. We don’t have to wait on someone else to make us happy. We can sow happiness into our own lives. We don’t have to wait for someone to bless us with money; we can sow more of God into our lives for He gives US the power to get wealth. These are just a few examples, but the bigger picture is, what you choose to sow, is what will move your mountain or keep it in its place.

What will you sow into your life today?

Prayer:

God, today we pray that we move mountains by sowing things into our lives that reap eternal life. Where we’ve sown corruption, let us turn that corruption into confession. Where we’ve sown bitterness, let us turn it into blessedness. We want to reap a harvest that will honor you. Show us what to plant that will last and not rust. Let what we plant beautify your grace in us. In Jesus’ everlasting name we pray, Amen.

How will your sowing move mountains today?
