Freedom Friday

Each one must give as he has decided in his heart, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.” (2 Corinthians 9:7)

This time of year many focus on giving; contributing to angel trees, food banks, charities and more.

Giving is an act of kindness that makes us feel good about helping others. However, giving during this holiday season can also be routine when it turns into a duty rather than a genuine gesture of love.

This Freedom Friday we want to ask you:

In all of your giving, what are you giving up to stay free in Christ?

Will you give up your complaining and resentful behavior?
Will you give up your bitter anger this season?
Will you give up your desperation for marriage and disdain for singlehood?
Will you give up neglecting your family for work?
Will you give up your holier than thou attitude?
Will you give up your inner hurt and outward blame this season?
Will you give up your negative strongholds?

We can give 1000s of dollars to charity every year; yet never change anything about our souls. Not only is this the season to give back, but it’s also a great time of year to give up something inside that may be blocking your freedom in Christ. Our Lord would be more concerned about us giving genuinely than just following societal traditions.

We’re not encouraging you not to give this season, however we are encouraging us all to take note of the heart that we’re giving with. What good is giving if our hearts aren’t right?
