Freedom Friday

Blessed is the one whose transgressions are forgiven; whose sins are covered. Blessed is the one whose sin the Lord does not count against them and in whose spirit is no deceit.” (Psalm 32:1-2)

Strike three…you’re out!

Not only is this a phrase that applies to baseball, it can refer to a prison sentence. Many of us know someone, whether it’s in our family, our circle of friends, or whether publicized through the media, who is imprisoned. It’s not a good feeling to be connected, in any kind of sense, to prison, especially personally.

The work of satan is to pursue and spiritually imprison the unarmored servants of God. He’s waiting to catch us off guard and seeking to entice us with comfortable sins so that we might entrap ourselves in his vicious jail.

God, however, doesn’t sit around waiting to imprison us; He desires that we live a free life in Him. He laid on Jesus all of the world’s sin, so that we could be free from the punishment that our sins deserve. What a blessing it is to be free and forgiven, without charge!

The Lord, in His infinite goodness and grace, chose not to count our sins against us. When we give our lives fully to Him, He doesn’t think of us in our sinful state, with the stamp of sin sewn on our prison garments; His thoughts toward us are thoughts of peace, love, and reconciliation. He doesn’t treat us like we’ve sinned; He treats us like we’re forgiven. No past to bring up, no strikes to give, no prison to throw us into.

This Freedom Friday message is a reminder that Jesus’ sacrifice doesn’t give us freedom to continue in our sin; it rather empowers us to live a free life in Him because He took on our sin.

How will you live in your freedom today?
