Joy doesn’t happen to you, it happens in you.
“But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy…” (Galatians 5:22)

Joy is not something “you” can do!

Hear us out; we totally believe that anyone can have joy. We also believe that joy is an attribute of the Spirit, not the flesh (“But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness, temperance: against such there is no law.” Galatians 5:22-23).

God knew we wouldn’t be able to experience joy if we lived in the flesh. We’ve got it backwards when we wait for favorable circumstances to happen to us in order to be joyful. Therefore to truly achieve, attain, or experience the joy of God it is necessary for the Spirit to be in us. The first step to experiencing joy is to be led by and filled with the Spirit who actually produces the fruit of joy.

Joy is not about you; it’s not even about us. Joy is about the Spirit of God in us! Let us be thankful for Jesus, who left the Spirit with us, so that we could even have the opportunity to experience joy!
