Thankful Thursday

Joy doesn’t happen to you, it happens in you.
“But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy…” (Galatians 5:22)

When was the last time you saw someone smiling during his or her suffering? Regardless of whether this is something you’ve seen or not, it’s possible to have feelings of joy when we go through the tough times.

Some are suffering through cancer and other incurable diseases, others are in agony over grief, even still some are in turmoil because of situations where the only way out is through struggle; yet these are the SAME people who inspire us, encourage us, and remind us of just how good God is! They don't live in worry, they worship the Lord...they don't wallow in pity, they find a reason to give God the praise. Have you witnessed this? Have you ever been there?

1 Peter 4:13 says, “But rejoice, inasmuch as ye are partakers of Christ's sufferings; that, when his glory shall be revealed, ye may be glad also with exceeding joy.” Suffering in the name of Jesus draws us closer to Him and because of His great example of triumph over struggles, sin, and death, we have exceeding joy. When we see Him again, in all of His glory, we won’t remember the pain and suffering, we will be filled with joy that must be unleashed! We can have that kind of joy now!

We pray this Thankful Thursday, that you find a reason to praise God through your struggles! We pray that you don’t wait for the healing to shout hallelujah, but that you do it in the midst of your hurting. We pray that you remain Joy-filled even when the situation looks bleak; because when we look to Jesus in our suffering and when His Spirit produces its ripe fruit of joy in our hearts, we will leap in satisfaction, we will bound with delight, we will show the world the goodness of God! When joy happens in you, it will be released from you!

Will you smile through your suffering today?
