Mountain Moving Monday: Chosen

According as he hath chosen us in him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and without blame before him in love.” (Ephesians 1:4)

Word Study: Chosen

The original meaning of chosen in this verse is taken from the Greek word, Eklegomai, which means to select, to choose for oneself, not to imply the rejection of what is not chosen, but "choosing" with the idea of kindness, favor, or love.

Let’s look at the word chosen in the scripture above to see how it applies to our lives.

Who usually gets chosen to carry out the plans of God? Is it the best looking, the smooth talker, the academic scholar? What about the dead-beat dad, or negligent mom, or the slacker? We notice from the scriptures that it wasn’t always the cutest, strongest, or smartest person who was picked; God chose people who sometimes fell short, those who had to work twice as hard as others, and those who were often overlooked to accomplish His purpose.

God chooses whomever HE wants.

The afflicted are chosen. The abused have been chosen. The abuser and the adulterer have been chosen too. See, God does His best work when He proves that the people whom we think aren’t or shouldn’t be chosen, actually are!

And such are some of us, however, to God, we’re not a mistake, accident, or someone He had to get adjusted to; He knew what He was getting into when He handpicked and chose us in the beginning. He knew our flaws, our wrongdoings, our insecurities, yet HE still desires us to be His preferred, chosen people! He chose us, not because He knew we would one day be rejected, but out of sheer kindness, favor, and love.

Your chosenness moves mountains. It moves the mountain of rejection. It moves the mountain of disappointment. It moves the mountain of loneliness. It moves the mountains of misunderstanding and confusion. Because HE has chosen us in Him, we are not alone. We are seen! We are worth every drop of love blood that was shed on the cross for us!

What lies have you believed about yourself that keep you from seeing your chosenness?

Dear Lord, our chosenness has opened our eyes to your goodness! You saw right through our mess-ups and slip ups and still chose us to be yours. We thank you for not holding our issues against us and for choosing us well before we disappointed you with our sins. What a gracious and loving God you are to send Jesus in our place and still choose us as your children! In Jesus’ name we pray, Amen!

How will your chosenness move mountains today?
