Thankful Thursday

And, behold, a woman in the city, which was a sinner, when she knew that Jesus sat at meat in the Pharisee's house, brought an alabaster box of ointment, And stood at his feet behind him weeping, and began to wash his feet with tears, and did wipe them with the hairs of her head, and kissed his feet, and anointed them with the ointment.”
(Luke 7:37-38)

Have you ever had your worship disrupted? You know when you’re trying to focus on the Lord, but

…the song leader won’t sing your song, or
…the sister that doesn’t like you is staring you down, or
…the preacher’s bling bling is too blinding, or
…that brother's breath next to you is not quite so fresh.

Even the smallest of things can take our focus off of showing God our love. When it comes to worship, we must have a plan prepared, because the enemy will try anything to distract us.

The sinful woman didn't let anything or anyone stop her from worshipping the Lord. She worshipped Him even in the midst of those who didn't like her. When she knew she would be in the presence of the Prince of Peace, she came prepared with her own worship kit: her hair, her tears, and her offering to shower Him with love. She prepared because she knew the enemy would be lurking!

Is there anything or anyone that needs to be blocked out so that you can fully commit to worshipping God? What have you prepared in your heart to bring to the throne of God?

Sometimes we have to close our eyes, kneel down, and quiet our minds to focus on Jesus. We have to block out the voices of those who bring up our sin, but won’t respect our redemption. We have to stop worrying about the naysayers or judgmental people around us. We shouldn’t let anyone hold our pasts against us or keep us from getting to Jesus. We don’t have to worry about how they view us as we worship, neither should we neglect to worship because of who is in our presence. When we spend more time worried about what people think of us, we lose time loving Jesus.

When we enter His presence let us endeavor to break open our worship kit and shower Him with our love. Let us bow before Jesus in humility, pour out our tears of thanksgiving and love, use everything within us to praise Him, and bless His name with the fruit of our lips. This Thankful Thursday we’re grateful that loving the Lord is more important than worshiping another person’s issues with us.

What are you thankful for?
