Mountain Moving Monday: Raise

And God hath both raised up the Lord, and will also raise up us by his own power.”
(1 Corinthians 6:14)

Word Study: Raise

The original meaning of raise in this verse is taken from the Greek word, Exegiro, which means to rouse fully, to resuscitate (from death), release (from infliction).

Let’s look at the word raise in the scripture above to see how it applies to our lives.

“If the Power to rise lies within us
Why are we still playing dead?
Playing as if we’re dead to sin
Spiritually squatting
Claiming we’re living in Him
But refusing to put in the work
To deep in our grave to see our worth
To deep in our hurt
To reverse the pain of our pasts with praise
We’ve been released, but we’re
Too afraid to step out on sin.”

This is the beginning of one of Melanie's poems called The Resurrected Life, and sadly, this is how too many of us live. God has raised us up from our pasts, and instead of being EXALTED, we’re claiming to be dead to sin, but are steadily digging a grave around our lives.

The verse above says that we have been roused fully, which means, we are to no longer lie around and wallow in our hurts. It means we have been resuscitated from spiritual death. Romans 6:3-5 confirms this:

How shall we that are dead to sin, live any longer therein? Know ye not, that so many of us as were baptized into Jesus Christ were baptized into his death? Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death: that like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life. For if we have been planted together in the likeness of his death, we shall be also in the likeness of his resurrection.”

We have been raised up by the power of God, but some of us still can't move the mountains in our lives. The scripture says that it's not by our own power, it's God's power in us that does the raising! The reason many of us are still dead in our sins is because we’re trying to lift ourselves. God raised up Jesus, so let's give Him full control to raise us!

Believest Thou Are Exalted? We can move mountains today with the assurance that we have been raised up! We have been brought back to life! Is there energy in our walk with the Lord or are we still lying lifeless in our pain? It’s time to rise up! It’s time to profess the resurrected life! It’s time to speak up because we’ve been resuscitated! It’s time to break through the curses and worthlessness that satan has spoken on our lives! Stop letting hurt, humiliation, and wounds hold you down! We have been released from our inflictions! We have been raised up from the shame and have an exalted name in the Lord!

What do you need to be raised up from in order to live an exalted life?

Prayer:

Our supreme and exceeding high God, we praise you for raising us up to newness of life in Christ! We thank you that Jesus went to the cross on our behalf so that the curse of sin might be lifted from our lives! We give you all honor and glory for your mercies that have delivered us from the shame of our pasts and raised us up to live exalted in you! In the name of Jesus, the name that is above every name, we pray, Amen!

Believest Thou Are Exalted? How will your exalted position move mountains today?

  1. Hello. As I read through this message, I saw myself in it. You posed the question, "What do you need to be raised up from in order to live an exalted life?" As I look at the way I've handled/done things in the past, I have come to the conclusion that I personally need to be raised up from "my own understanding." "Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding..." that is what scripture says (Proverbs 3:5) but often times I forget that because of "what I feel" overriding what "God has said". I have to remember that God has a higher way and understanding than I will ever have (Isaiah 55:9) and He will guide me where He wishes for me to go based on His will and timing and not on my own.

    1. This scripture on leaning not on our own understanding is really pertinent because when it comes to following God and obeying Him and moving mountains in our lives we need His guidance, His Spirit, His wisdom, His strength to get through! So it only makes sense to lean on Him to move our mountains! Thanks for swapping with us!! Great scriptures to meditate on!
