"For as many of you as have been baptized into Christ have put on Christ."
(Galatians 3:27)

Superwoman may be charming and impressive; she may stand out in the limelight, she may look her best and seem to exceed the rest, but all of that “super-ness” soon fades away.

She soon realizes her cape isn’t big enough to hide her weaknesses. She realizes that what she thought were super powers were super excuses to conceal that she’s been cowering behind her cape of wifely responsibilities, mommy duties, employee expectations, and social standards.

Many of us, through these lessons, have found that we chose Superwoman because just as soon as we surrendered our masks there were things in our lives that we didn’t want to face. We feared taking off our capes because we thought we’d be defined as helpless, that we’d be exposed to criticism, or that our situations would be exploited.

But God!

Because of Him, we can let go of our superwoman capes, and still be covered ladies! We can come boldly before the throne of grace, open arms, desperate, and unashamed, because God covers us with His love, Jesus! We can be cape-less, but COVERED!

Every superwoman who removes her cape reveals a virtuous woman who’s put on Christ! Cape-less takes us right back to Jesus. Being cape-less means we’re free! It means we don’t need our capes to mask our true emotions, or to cover up the things that hurt us. Being cape-less means we’re bold enough to show our weaknesses, because we know they don’t define us!

Today, we’re covered because of Jesus. We are totally under the protection of Christ's blood, against all the destroying powers of satan. The enemy may try to attack, but he does not have the power to destroy. “And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony,” (Revelation 12:11).

When we put on Christ in baptism (Galatians 3:27), God sees His Son when He looks at us. He doesn’t see us running around trying to be super in His sight, He sees the precious blood of Jesus covering our sins and safeguarding our lives from the enemy. He no longer sees us in our mess; He sees the covering of the Messiah! Hallelujah! It’s better for us that God see His perfect Son Jesus, than to see us who are imperfect in so many ways.

So we must stop, like Superwoman, trying to do it on our own because God doesn’t recognize what we do outside of Jesus anyway. We pray through Jesus, we need the strength of Jesus; we must have the mind of Jesus! We're covered by Jesus!

The virtuous woman in Proverbs was not a superwoman. God didn’t create us as superwomen with all power. He alone is omnipotent! Power is His role, so we must remove the cape mentality that God and us are equal in responsibility. When we try to take on things ourselves, we’re putting a limit on what the Lord can do through us. Apart from Him we can do nothing. We are called to be virtuous women, not to be or do virtually-anything-and-everything-women.

Let’s remove our capes today and put on Christ! And if anyone asks how you do all that you do, lead them back to Jesus:

I’m cape-less, but free in Christ!
I’m cape-less, but saved through Christ!
I’m cape-less, but unified with Christ!
I’m cape-less, but covered by the powerful blood of Christ!
