In the Loop: Breaking Through Oppressed Living

Tuesday, March 31, 2015

You know of Jesus of Nazareth, how God anointed Him with the Holy Spirit and with power, and how He went about doing good and healing all who were oppressed by the devil, for God was with him.” (Acts 10:38)

Oppressed living is more than a “woe is me” attitude caused by the intentional attack from others. Living an oppressed life deals with the never-ending chain of negative thinking, speaking, and experiences that consume a person’s whole being.

Have you ever known someone who was always negative; who felt everyone was always out to get him or her?

Have you been around or are someone who can never seem to make ends meet, or even if they do complain that it’s never enough?

Do you know or are you someone who thinks the worst, never has a kind word, or is forever holding a grudge?

If you find yourself in either of those categories, we want to remind you that it’s not just something that is happening to you, oppression is something we can read about in biblical times as well. In Luke 13:11-13, we find a woman who lived with physical oppression. In John 10:10, we read about mental and emotional oppression caused by the devil attempting to control our minds and spirits. The Psalmist also continually talked about deliverance from his oppressors (Psalm 9:9, 12:5, 103:6).

Some signs of oppressed living are negativity, constant streams of financial debt or misfortune, self-defeating/destructive thoughts, constant overwhelm, hopelessness, disdain for the success/blessings of others, grudge holding, confusion, distractions, and so many more.

There’s a great difference in bad things happening to someone and people just allowing these things to dominate their lives for prolonged periods of time. If you're still holding on to hurts from years ago, it's time to Break Through! So, for the month of April, we will be Breaking Through Oppressed Living with Testimony Tuesdays and Freedom Friday lessons!

Just because we've fallen on hard times or terrible things have happened to us, we don't have to stay down or defeated; neither do we have to allow others to pull us into the oppression they live in comfortably every day. We can and should Break Through!

We serve a God who provides relief from our storms and who rescues us from defeatist attitudes. He can make the crooked straight, turn wounds into worship, and bring life to dead situations. His Son, Jesus, didn’t give His life so that we could live like losers. Satan is the one who loses; in Christ, we win (Colossians 2:13-15)!

If there is a specific issue that’s constantly plaguing you and keeping you in bondage, it’s time to move forward with the Lord and leave the oppressed life behind!

Join us starting Tuesday, April 7, 2015 as we BREAK THROUGH OPPRESSED LIVING and continue to grow together in the Lord!
