"After being baptized, Jesus came up immediately from the water; and behold, the heavens were opened, and he saw the Spirit of God descending as a dove and lighting on Him, and behold, a voice out of the heavens said, “This is My beloved Son, in whom I am well-pleased.” Then Jesus was led up by the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted by the devil."
(Matthew 3:16-4:1, NASB)

  1. We really like this passage! Not only is Jesus a perfect example of obedience in being baptized, but it shows how much the Father honored Him for His obedience. The Spirit of God descending as a dove upon Jesus is relative to Acts 2:38 where it states, "repent and be baptized...and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost." This same promise of the Holy spirit for us, is the same Spirit who confirmed Jesus' baptism. The Spirit of God bears witness to us being adopted as children into the family of God once we're baptized. He also leads us to places of testing to strengthen our faith and prove that God can and will bring us through even the testiest of times!
