  1. There's that word sealed again! The very person who can vouch for our obedience, is the very one whom we can sadden and vex with our actions and our thoughts. The word here for grieve means "distress, make sad, cause heaviness or sorrow." The actions that we are supposed to remove from ourselves, mentioned in previous verses, are many that grieve the Holy Spirit. This is why Paul was urging the church at Ephesus to be renewed in the spirit of their minds, putting on the new man, because the old woman of sin makes the very Spirit of God heavy. Want to make God sad, continue in sin...but we can make Him happy by following His will for our lives!
