In The Loop: Boundaries with the Holy Spirit

Tuesday, March 29, 2016

The boundary lines have fallen for me in pleasant places; surely I have a delightful inheritance.”
(Psalm 16:6, NIV)

Many of us grew up learning the art of people pleasing. We struggled to say no when we really didn’t want to obligate ourselves to something; yet rarely said yes to things that would benefit our spirit. It seemed easier to go through life when everyone around us was happy. We felt if we set up boundaries, people would judge us and call us cruel and unchristian.

But does God want us to merely be happy, or does He desire that we also be holy?

James 5:12, says “…your yes is to be yes, and your no, no;’ by being upfront and open with others we are setting boundaries which aren’t selfish, but rather, spirit-led. These are boundaries, which are holy and that will make us feel happy for setting them in place.

In every instance in life there is a time to say yes and/or no. We have to realize that God didn’t send Jesus to save us, so that we would become “super Christians” refusing to turn people down if they ask us for something. He sent Jesus to save us from bondage, from fear, and from condemnation. He sent Him to set up boundaries against sin! If we want to please anyone in this life, it must be God (Galatians 1:10 – “Am I now trying to win the approval of human beings, or of God? Or am I trying to please people? If I were still trying to please people, I would not be the servant of Christ.”)

So what does this mean for you? Do you need to release yourself from the control and manipulation of others? Do you need to gain more confidence and learn how to say no sometimes? Do you want to not feel guilty for saying yes to doing things that you enjoy? Do you want to learn how to set up appropriate boundaries in your spiritual life?

We want to show you through a series of FREEDOM FRIDAY messages how to set spiritual boundaries and discern whether you should be saying YES or NO to certain situations. Starting Friday, April 8th, meet us in your inbox, as we find out how to:

1) SAY NO CONDEMNATION (April 8)
2) SAY YES TO THE DRESS (April 15)
3) SAY NO WAY (April 22)
4) SAY YES TO GOD (April 29)

If God’s word is calling us to say either Yes or No, then He will keep His promise to empower us for the task whether accepted or declined! Join us and invite a friend or two who may be asking the question of how to set boundaries in their lives. We guarantee they will be blessed as we all open the scriptures and grow together in the Lord! ☺
