Freedom Friday: Say Yes to the Dress

Friday, April 15, 2016

Therefore, as God's chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience.” (Colossians 3:12)

It's all about the dress. Typically, every wedding is the same; though vows are exchanged, the wow is in the bride's dress. Whether it's a ballgown, tea length, sheath, high-low, mermaid, lace, tulle, or A-line with a train, she ultimately says YES to a dress, that she probably hopes her family and peers will SAY YES to as well!

Even though she'll be spending the rest of her life with the groom at the end of the aisle, for a brief moment she wants to shine and stop time. In the same way, when we put on Christ (Galatians 3:27), He becomes our bridegroom. He woos us with His word, which He cannot break, and His love, which He vows is forever!

God is not only our husband – Isaiah 54:5 – He is our dress.

HE is the wow-factor in our lives! HE is what people will gawk over when we put Him on. When we are dressed in Jesus, people will say yes because they will see that we said YES to Him too. But even though our dress will shine for all to see, there will be some boundaries which may cause you to rethink your choice of dress.

The Naysayers

Do you have a naysayer in your life? They can’t handle the fact that God is blessing you, so they try to tear you down so that you feel as bad they do. They criticize your relationship with the Lord, but are not trying to create their own. Even when they are people close to us, we must avoid them (2 Timothy 3:1-5).

The Unbelievers

This clan will challenge your dress and refuse to accept Jesus. Their aim is to get you to question why you said Yes to Jesus in the first place and encourage you to leave Him. They operate on fear, not faith. They’ll tell you He isn’t the only one who truly loves you. They'll share that if you leave Him, you’ll regain your freedom. They'll try to convince you that saying yes to Jesus is saying yes to bondage. But they are wrong (Hebrews 3:12).

The Unthankful

These ones are mostly moody, naturally negative, bountifully bitter, constantly complaining and are quick to find something wrong with your dress…it’s too tight (Jesus is spiritually restrictive), it’s too gaudy (Jesus is too visible), or it’s too ugly (Jesus is not appealing). (Romans 1:21)

This FREEDOM FRIDAY, it’s time to care less about what people say or think about you because pleasing them will never make you appealing to God. It’s time to Say YES to the DRESS by choosing, trusting, and trying Jesus on to see how a relationship with Him will fit! It’s time to Say YES and live with dignity, not shame. Say YES to a love relationship with the LORD and walk towards Him with a leap in your spirit. He's waiting with open arms!
